The Fire Hydrant Operating Wheel is a heavy-duty manual operating wheel designed specifically for opening and closing fire hydrant valves. It provides controlled torque transmission to the hydrant stem, enabling reliable activation and shut-off of water flow during firefighting operations and maintenance procedures.
Engineered for durability, high visibility, and smooth operation, the wheel ensures safe and efficient hydrant control under emergency conditions, including high-pressure systems.
The operating wheel is compatible with standard fire hydrants including:
-
Mueller Super Centurion
-
Clow Medallion
-
Kennedy Guardian
2. Functional Overview
The operating wheel is mounted on the hydrant bonnet and connected directly to the valve stem.
Opening Operation:
-
Counterclockwise rotation.
-
Threaded stem lifts the main valve gate.
-
Water flow increases progressively.
-
Designed for full open in 15–25 turns (depending on hydrant model).
Closing Operation:
The wheel is designed to prevent sudden pressure shock and allow gradual water release.
3. Key Features
✔ Heavy-Duty Construction
Designed for high torque applications in municipal water systems.
✔ Anti-Slip Grip Design
Raised rim or ribbed structure for gloved operation.
✔ Corrosion-Resistant Coating
Fusion-bonded epoxy or powder coating for outdoor exposure.
✔ High Visibility
Standard red finish (custom colors available).
✔ Tamper-Resistant Option
Available with breakaway or locking cap configuration.
